Southern-Style Baked Beans with Bacon
Rich, smoky, and perfect for BBQs or potlucks
Ingredients
2 cans (28 oz total) pork and beans
½ cup ketchup
½ cup BBQ sauce
¼ cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
A few drops liquid smoke (optional)
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon black pepper
5–6 slices bacon
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Mix the bean mixture
In a large bowl, combine the pork and beans, ketchup, BBQ sauce, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke (if using), garlic powder, and pepper. Stir well until fully blended.
3. Assemble the dish
Pour the mixture into a baking dish and spread it evenly. Lay the bacon slices across the top (you can leave them whole or cut them in half).
4. Bake
Bake uncovered for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until the sauce is bubbling and the bacon is cooked and slightly crispy.
5. Optional – Crispier bacon
For extra-crispy bacon, switch the oven to broil for the last 2–3 minutes. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
6. Serve
Let the beans cool slightly before serving. Enjoy as a classic Southern side dish with grilled meats, BBQ, or at your next potluck.
