Ingredients
1 sleeve saltine crackers (about 35–40 crackers)
1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
1½ cups semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
Prepare the slow cooker. Lightly spray the inside with non-stick cooking spray.
Layer the crackers. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer across the bottom, breaking pieces as needed to cover the surface.
Make the caramel. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in the brown sugar. Bring to a steady boil and cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and turns glossy.
Add the caramel to the slow cooker. Pour the caramel evenly over the crackers, spreading gently to cover.
Cook. Cover and cook on LOW for 1½ to 2 hours, until the mixture is bubbling at the edges and the crackers have softened.
Melt the chocolate. Turn off the heat. Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the top, cover, and let sit for 10–15 minutes until melted.
Spread and cool. Spread the melted chocolate into an even layer. Let cool for at least 30 minutes before serving warm, or refrigerate until firm for slicing.
Notes
Sprinkle sea salt or chopped nuts on top for extra texture.
Refrigerate for clean, sliceable bars.
